A cheap piezo alarm is no bargain if
it's unreliable and fails when you need
it. We tested 19 different alarms we
found on eBay, and THIS ONE got the
highest marks overall. None of the
alarms were perfect. Even with this
model, there was some variation in
sound output between alarms. But the
variation was not nearly as severe as
it was with many other models.
    Still, YOU'RE GETTING MY BEST
of these alarms as I've Pre-Tested
them all and sorted sorted them by
    loudness. That means you're buying
the BEST Performers here. The others
that didn't quite measure up are sold
    elsewhere at a reduced price.
    Unfortunately, it's impossible for a
    manufacturer to make alarms that
are all top performers and I explain
why below for those who want the
details. Since all alarms of this type
are made in China, it's not surprising
to find so many under performers.
But then we all know how little
    Chinese manufacturers care about
    making quality products.
    Perhaps what makes my alarms
stand out from crowd is that they
were made in Taiwan, and not
    mainland China. That difference
in quality seems to be evident
in some other products as well.
With Cheaper Alarms, we found you
    sacrifice performance and reliability.
That's are a huge sacrifice that risks
personal safety and the protection of
    your home and possessions.
If Buying This Alarm, please read the
rest of this ad. It contains important
    hook-up information that will protect
the alarm from damage and help you
get maximum performance out of the
    alarm.
Most other alarms I tested were very
inconsistent in sound output, with many
obviously not producing the advertised db
sound level. The defect rate of the other
units was often greater than 5%. I chose
this particular alarm to sell on eBay for
    it's consistent quality, greatly lower
defect rate, better reliability, and for
it being one of the loudest of all the
    alarms I tested.
This alarm takes advantage of natural
    component resonances to achieve maximum
sound output which keeps the required
operating current as low as possible. This
design feature produces a longer battery
life when it's powered by battery.
    OBSERVE PROPER POLARITY when
connecting this alarm. Red wire is (+)
and Black wire is (-). Connecting the
alarm with the polarity reversed WILL
    damage the alarm.
For getting maximum sound out of this
    alarm, you'll need a good 12V or 15V
Power Adapter. If you need such an
adapter, I can recommend a good power
adapter to you that I have personally
tested on this alarm. If this alarm is to
be used with your existing home alarm
system, it's important that you take time
    to read the next paragraph.
This alarm can be used in your own home
projects when used with sensor switches or
controls that connect it to a 6 to 15 volt
    external power supply
    ...or...
It can also be added to existing
security systems that provide 6 to 15
    Volt connections for additional alarms.
In such cases, if your alarm system
provides a DC Voltage Output for an
additional alarm, just connect this alarm
observing the proper polarity. If the
existing alarm system just provides a
relay contact closure, you will need to
add a 12 volt power supply in series with
this alarm when making the connection
    (observing proper polarities, of course).
    Note:
This alarm is not compatible with alarm
systems that generate their own alarm
signal and provide an audio output
    connection for additional speakers or
    horns.
    Warble Definition:
Similar to a Siren, the pitch of the
sound rises and falls linearly in a
    repeating pattern.
This alarm produces a Very Loud,
    Medium-Slow Warbling type sound,
and it only draws about 110ma at 12
Volts. The unit I tested even ran on as
little as 6 Volts at a somewhat reduced
volume level. I don't know if all units will
perform at voltages this low or not, but I
will be happy to test a unit for you at
what ever voltage you request. Just
send me an email before you buy
specifying the voltage you would like
me to test the device at.
    Please Note:
    The maximum advertised sound output
will only be produced when powered by
a 12V source. Lower operating voltages
will result in lower sound levels being
produced. That's the Laws of Physics
at work and it's true of all piezo alarms,
    not just this one.
    Also Note:
This is just a Sounder and requires a
connection to a Power supply or battery
and a triggering mechanism that has an
    automatic shut-off.
    Usage Considerations:
Since this is a Mini Alarm having Low
    Power Requirements and a Small
Diaphragm, this alarm may not be
suitable for outdoor use where a large
coverage area is desired or the sound
    needs to carry great distances.
    Compatibility with Existing Alarms:
One of my customers tells me this alarm
is compatible with Honeywell and Titan XT
Security Alarms when connected to the HW1
terminals. However this is hearsay, so if
using with these alarms, you need to verify
that your HW1 terminals on these alarms
provides a 6 to 12 Volt DC Voltage.
